The Beechmont Neighborhood Association is excited to introduce (or re-introduce!) you to local businesses in our community. We are grateful to have such vibrant and unique businesses in our community, and we hope you will join us in supporting them!
The A-Chau grocery store has provided our diverse neighborhood with Vietnamese and Asian foods since 2004 when owner Tri Tran’s father was able to save enough from his earnings as a factory worker to open his own business. After his retirement, Tri took over the business, and in 2017 expanded it to include a restaurant. Like many small businesses, the restaurant closed during the COVID pandemic, but we are so glad this wonderful eatery survived! BNA Board Member Debbie Braaksma recently enjoyed a delicious lunch of Pho Ga (chicken noodle soup) with her daughter-in-law, Rush Braaksma, who was similarly impressed with her Bun Thit Nuong (a pork vermicelli bowl) and, having lived in Vietnam for several years while teaching English, Rush knows her Vietnamese cuisine! She explained that the food Tri severs at A-Chau is from a specific region of Vietnam, the Mekong Delta, near the Cambodian border. And Tri shared that it is very distinct from food from other parts of the country, notably a little sweeter. One of the popular Mekong Delta delicacies that A-Chau is famous for is Hu Tieu. Debbie eager to head back soon to give it a try along with their papaya salad!
